Classification hiérarchique

Classe des documents dans de profondes hiérarchies de brevets, de produits de détail, de biomédecine et de code source, à l’aide d’une recherche en faisceau parallèle sur les probabilités Choice de TypeSafe.

Beaucoup de données se présentent sous forme de hiérarchies structurées : taxonomies, hiérarchies de systèmes de fichiers, structures de sites web, bases de code, organigrammes, ontologies biologiques, compétences de LLM, politiques de modération, etc. Le but de la classification hiérarchique est de parcourir la hiérarchie jusqu’au bon nœud feuille, qui est la classification finale. C’est un cas idéal pour la primitive Choice de typesafe. On trouve la feuille la plus probable en classant le document à chaque nœud (en partant de la racine), puis en passant itérativement au nœud le plus probable suivant jusqu’à atteindre une feuille (recherche gloutonne).

La nature parallèle de l’API nous permet aussi d’explorer plusieurs chemins avec des questions parallèles, en utilisant une recherche en faisceau pour améliorer les performances. Les appels à l’API TypeSafe du cookbook évaluent chacun simultanément K chemins de la hiérarchie. La recherche en faisceau garde les K meilleurs chemins selon une probabilité d’arête en moyenne géométrique : product(edge_probabilities) ** (1 / decisions), et élague le reste. La probabilité est normalisée par la longueur, pour que les feuilles peu profondes et profondes soient comparées équitablement.

Décomposer le problème en une hiérarchie comme celle-ci a ses propres avantages :

  • Observabilité
    • identifie les nœuds où tes erreurs de classification sont les plus fréquentes
    • mesure le nombre de fois où chaque nœud et chaque arête est parcouru
  • Testabilité
    • teste unitairement et mesure l’impact des mises à jour de la hiérarchie sur la performance de classification

Hiérarchies utilisées dans ce cookbook

  • CPC 2026.05: matière de brevets, des grandes sections technologiques aux inventions étroites.
  • Shopify 2026-02: catégories de produits de détail, des rayons de magasin aux types de produits précis.
  • MeSH 2026: sujets biomédicaux, des grands domaines aux affections précises. MeSH est un DAG, donc un descripteur peut apparaître sous plusieurs parents ; cette démo développe ses chemins officiels de numéros d’arbre.
  • Fichiers CookSafe : hiérarchie du dépôt de cookbooks de TypeSafe, parcourue des dossiers aux fichiers source.

Méthodes

  • Recherche gloutonne : choisis l’enfant le plus probable et écarte toutes les alternatives. Une erreur précoce ne peut pas être rattrapée.
  • Recherche en faisceau : conserve K chemins plausibles et classe chaque frontière en parallèle. Des preuves plus profondes peuvent réparer une décision précoce ambiguë. La feuille du chemin dont la probabilité en moyenne géométrique est la plus élevée est la classification finale.
  • Choice de TypeSafe : chaque nœud est une question Choice dont la distribution de probabilité complète constitue ses arêtes. Chaque chemin du faisceau s’exécute en questions parallèles, donc une exploration supplémentaire ajoute peu de latence réelle.
  • Formule :
    • path_score = product(edge_probabilities) ** (1 / decisions)
      • sert à élaguer et à comparer les chemins
    • separation = top_path_score / second_path_score
      • métrique utile, mais pas utilisée pour l’élagage
      • le rapport compare la moyenne géométrique du meilleur chemin à son plus proche rival.
        • Proche de 1× = ambigu
        • Un rapport élevé signifie une séparation nette.
  • Notes sur les métriques :
    • une autre métrique comme min(top_prob/second_top_prob), qui optimiserait les chemins ayant des décisions très nettes à chaque nœud.
    • utiliser exp(mean(log(probs))) au lieu de product(edge_probabilities) ** (1 / decisions) pour éviter les erreurs de précision sur les hiérarchies très profondes (p. ex. >10 niveaux)

Charger et visualiser les hiérarchies d’exemple

Ces helpers téléchargent des sources de taxonomies épinglées, les analysent en arbres d’enfants directs, et rendent chaque parcours de recherche sous forme de SVG statique.
